My acquaintance with Germany

In June a group of students from our gymnasium visited Wiesbaden, Germany. It was a very interesting and exited journey, especially, I think, for those who went abroad for the first time. All of us lived in the host-families, some – in the city, others – in the suburbs of Wiesbaden. Our exchange partners were very friendly and tried to do their best to show not only their wonderful city to us but other different places. We saw a lot. For example I was very happy when my new friend Mareika took me to Weimer. This place is known all over the world as cultural centre of Germany. There we visited the museum of Goethe and saw a monument to… Alexander Pushkin! On our way to Weimer we visited Buhenwald. It is very difficult to speak about this place. I think that there is no one in Russia who does not know about it. Standing in front of this memorial it was impossible to believe that only 60 years ago millions of people were killed there.

In the evenings we often had picnic. And on one of our last days in Wiesbaden we went to Mareika’s country house. Can you imagine a very small house somewhere in the field with all modern conveniences? Now we can imagine it, too.

To tell you the truth, I am very glad that I visited Germany and that I have many friends in Wiesbaden. We still keep in touch and I hope we will never fall out. Of course we did a lot of sightseeing, but we also got away from the touristy areas and tried to discover more about the real way of life in Germany. I am very grateful to our gymnasium for helping us to visit other foreign countries.
